Church Council Recap – May 21, 2025

We held our last official meeting of the council under the leadership of Rev. David Sherwin on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The meeting was Called to Order, quorum was established, the Christ Candle was lit, the land was acknowledgement, and Rev. David delivered his last opening message and prayer to council.
The agenda was approved and minutes of our last meeting on May 21st was also approved.
During the Minister’s Time he updated us on Cecilia Dayo, she now has a full-time job and is also working part-time. She is hoping that through the refuge fund we will be able to help her cover the cost of her driver’s training.
He also reported on the Regional Council’s 100th Anniversary Celebration which was held on June 15th, over 1400 people were in attendance.
The Treasurer reported that there was $800 in the refugee fund and thanked the Stewardship committee for a job well done as revenue has increased.
A motion was granted for the Outreach and Mission team to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 from the Justice and Reconciliation fund of the National United Church of Canada for the 2026 Indigenous Fair.
Faith Formation and Nurture reported that supply ministers have been secured for the summer months, into September.
Communications, Marketing and Events informed that the Horticulture Society will be hosting a Summer Flower Show and Ice Cream Social on July 5, in the upper hall. The Carleton Place Community Band will present an afternoon concert with proceeds to benefit ZMUC on Feb. 16, 2026.
Property Team reported that the tower repairs, drywall and painting will be completed in the near future.
FUNDRAISER to be held on September 13, 2025 in the upper hall. The band “Earthtones” will be playing live music for our enjoyment. Details to follow.
A motion was passed to coordinate a group order of orange shirts for “Orange Shirt Day”. Details to follow.
Two motions were passed from previous minutes. 1) That the CP Rec Club be allowed to use the Sunday School room, Monday to Friday, with specifications. 2) The Council approved the creation of an enclosed play area for the use of the CP Rec Club. Final plans for construction of the play area, including cost, construction dates, design and contractor must be approved by the council before any construction begins.
Rev. David Sherwin closed the meeting with a prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
Our next council meeting is scheduled for September 17, 2025
After the meeting, a small celebration was held honouring Rev. David's time with Zion-Memorial and wishing him all the best in retirement.
