Church Council Recap – April 23, 2025

By Cherry Linton, Treasurer

Our most recent Council meeting was held Wednesday evening, April 23rd. It was productive, as usual, with several important motions passed and updates discussed. Here’s the rundown:

Motions Approved:

  • We approved a number of upcoming celebrations of faith. Sam Tunnoch, son of Paul and Bridget, will be baptized on May 18th. On the same day, Trish Smith and Heather Insley-Galipeau will reaffirm their faith.

  • Sebastien and Anastasia Morin, children of Francois Morin and Mia Menard, will be baptized on June 29th.

  • We renewed our Volunteer Associate Ministers: Grant Dillenbeck, Mary Royal-Duczek, and Eric Barr.

  • Zion-Memorial will also be participating in Bridge Street SummerFest on July 26th. Should be a lively day.

Items Discussed:

  • The UCC’s 100th Anniversary Regional Meeting is happening at the EY Centre in Ottawa on June 15th. Because of this, we will not be holding our regular service that day. Sign-up sheets for transportation are in the narthex. More info will follow soon.

  • As part of our spring cleanup on April 26th, we’ll be removing the pews from the center aisle. If you’re free to help, we’d love the extra hands.

  • We received an update from The Hunger Stop. Unfortunately, our lot doesn’t have enough room for the building they’re envisioning. We were glad to be considered, and they expressed appreciation for our interest.

  • The Clothes Closet is dissolving, so we won’t be moving forward with the partnership.

  • Council heard a report form the Search Committee.

  • Lastly, during cleanup day, some records will be shredded. We’re exploring the idea of turning this into a fundraiser—folks could bring their own paperwork to be shredded for a small donation. Stay tuned.

That's all for this month. If you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to reach out to me or any member of council.– Cherry
